Daikin are Europe’s number 1 selling heat pump
Energywise Ireland is an approved distributor and a recognised installer of Daikin heat pumps. Daikin have over 450,000 air to water heat pumps sold in Europe. Daikin is widely considered as the market leader of highly energy-efficient heating, cooling, ventilation and refrigeration solutions for commercial, residential and industrial applications across Europe. They are also the number one supplier of air to water heat pumps in Ireland. Daikin heat pumps are efficient and dependable, offering worry-free comfort. The Daikin air to water heat pump, is a total domestic heating and hot water system. Daikin air to water heat pumps utilize a scroll compressor design with fewer moving parts and greater dependability. Daikin has more than 50 years of experience in the production of air source heat pump systems, manufacturing over a million units a year for residential and commercial applications.
How does an air to water heat pump work?
An air to water heat pumps system consist of four major elements that allow the refrigerant to pass from the liquid state to the gas: a compressor, a condenser, an expansion valve and an evaporator.
1. A fan passes air over the evaporator, the refrigerant absorbs heat from the outside air. The refrigerant boils and evaporates at a low temperature giving us vapour.
2. The vapour passes into the compressor and compression increases the temperature.
3. The warm vapour is condensed is the heat exchanger and the rejected heat is passed onto the heating and hot water system
4. The condensed vapour returns to liquid, passes back through expansion valve, reducing pressure and temperature, ready to start cycle again

New build projects – Low temperature air to water heat pump
The Daikin Altherma low temperature air to water heat pump system is a perfect heating and hot water system for any new build project. This low temperature system is a perfect combination for underfloor heating, low temperature radiators or fan coils. The integrated indoor floor-standing unit combines heating with domestic hot water heating. The compact unit has a small footprint, but it offers big benefits. It features a high capacity 180L or 260L tank with 50% less heat loss compared to a standard tank. Intelligent controls offer a schedule function (heating the tank at a specific time of day) and a reheat function (automatically reheating when the temperature drops below a specified minimum) A well-insulated home will have varying heat load depending on the ambient conditions. A heating system is usually sized for the worst case scenario but an inverter based heat pump can vary its heat output to match the heat load of your home. Energywise solution will react and ensure you’re only consuming the exact amount of energy required to heat your home. The Daikin Altherma system is available in two different configurations, a monobloc system and a split system.
Low temperature – Split integrated system
Energywise’s most popular air to water heating system is a split integrated system. The split integrated system has a small indoor footprint, it combines the hot water cylinder and the hydrobox in one sleek floor standing unit. Stacking the hot water cylinder and the indoor unit eliminates piping and reduces heat loss between the two units. This new floor standing configuration results in a compact footprint and drastically reduced installation times due in part to plug-and-play couplings. A programmable commissioning function for underfloor heating will gradually increase the system’s water temperature in time blocks of up to 72 hours to allow for proper screed drying.
Low temperature – Split System
The Daikin Altherma outdoor unit includes a heat pump that extracts heat from the outside air resulting in 2/3 of all usable heat coming from a sustainable and free source. Split systems are used when there are internal space constraints or when the distance between the outdoor unit and the cylinder/property is large. Pipes carrying refrigerant gas are laid between the outdoor unit and an internal wall mounted unit called a “hydrobox”. A hot water cylinder is also required. The split system comes in sizes of 4-8KW and 11-16KW. The indoor unit can be wall mounted or floor standing which includes water cylinder.
A complete heating and hot water solution
A Daikin air to water heat pump can provide more than efficient heating for your home. It can also provide a total solution for domestic heating and hot water. The whole heat pump system can be connected to solar collectors, for even greater efficiencies. The solar energy helps to deliver 60% of your hot water energy needs throughout the year.
Low temperature – Monobloc System
When there are internal space constraints, the Daikin monobloc air to water heat pump offers a perfect solution as it combines the compressor and the hydraulic components in a single outdoor unit. It contains all of the components to generate heating and hot water and output this to your property. The monobloc unit sits outdoors and comes in sizes of 6-8KW and 11-16KW. With a monobloc system, hot water pipes run between the outdoor unit and the hot water cylinder in the property.
Retrofit projects – High temperature air to water heat pump
In older or harder to heat properties, you need a system that reliably delivers higher water flow temperatures of up to 80ºC, without necessarily replacing the whole radiator system. The Daikin Altherma high temperature system can perfectly replace a traditional boiler and connect to the existing piping. The Daikin Altherma high temperature system is therefore the ideal heating and hot water solution for retrofit or refurbishment projects. The Daikin High Temperature heat pump range is unique in that it outputs hot water at a much higher temperature than standard heat pumps. It uses a two-stage heat pump system to raise the output water temperature to around 80°C. This high temperature system can be used in conjunction with existing steel radiators designed at a flow temperature of 70°C to 80°C so there is NO need to replace the radiators as well! The space saving design offers a modular configuration to ensure easy installation in even the smallest of spaces. Optional solar connection is available. It comprises of an outdoor unit, an indoor hydrobox and a hot water cylinder.
Daikin HPSU with Solar
The Daikin Altherma heating system has the option of using solar energy for hot water production. Our customer like this product because it offers them flexibility for the future. With the HPSU compact, the retrofitting of a solar thermal system is incredibly simple. You don’t need to worry about finding extra space later on, as the heat pump is already prepared for everything. If the solar energy is not required immediately, the purpose-built hot water tank can store large quantities of heated water for up to a day for later use as domestic hot water or for heating.
